Workshops, Special Events, & More

Can’t get enough Cannonball? Well feast yer eyes on this!

We’ve got lots for you to explore and experience at Cannonball! Our artists aren’t just performers, they also share their work through workshops, classes, conversations, and other experiences crafted for (and with) you! Check below for some of the events you can be a part of before or after a show!

Workshops, masterclasses, and other offerings from our artists allow you to engage in their work outside of the performance space. Here’s what we have this year:

Artist Workshops at Cannonball

Inspired by the circus feats seen in Cannonball shows such as I Hear You and I’d Like to Respond, You shouldn’t be doing what you’re doing on that Ladder, and Surface Tension? Our friends at Acro& are joining us to provide this all-abilities partner acro workshop!

Free Acro Pop-Up Workshop with Acro&
Friday, Sept 16th 7PM - 9PM in the MAAS Garden

This workshop will invite participants to explore how identity, history, and artifacts expose the feelings/sounds/images/philosophies of our development. Facilitated by BIPOC New Work Track Awardee Shavon Norris, creator of Me and Jesus and Prince and Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a One Bedroom apartment in the Bronx.

Embodied Storytelling with Shavon Norris
Sunday, Sept 18th 10AM - 12PM at Icebox

If you’re dreaming of a new life, a new you, an empowered, popular clown, this workshop is for you! You might walk in a comedy shrimp, but we guarantee you’ll leave PERFORMANCE SWOLE. All members of the community are invited to join us for an intensive session of the TOTAL BODY CLOWN FITNESS program. This workshop will be led by renowned personal trainers to the stars Cecilia Corrigan and Rose Luardo, creator of Pedestrian Circus.

Total Makeover Retreat: Clown Edition
with Cecilia Corrigan & Rose Luardo

Sunday, Sept 25th 11AM - 1PM
at Pig Iron (Studio B)

Partner Acrobatics
with Z Farrel & Ilana Rose

Thursday, Sept 29th 1:30PM - 4PM
at MAAS Studio

Possibilities for movement expand when you can climb on, roll over, and swing other humans. In this masterclass, we will lay the foundations for sharing weight, stacking bodies, and moving them dynamically through space, with a focus on standing partner acro and group skills. This workshop will be led by festival guest artists Ilana Rose and Z Feldman from Santa Fe, NM.

Cannonball x thINKingDANCE

This year, Cannonball and thINKingDANCE join forces to encourage audiences and performers to deepen their experience of the festival through writing. thINKingDANCE will lead a pre-festival workshop for Cannonball artists, introducing them to the tools and techniques of critical writing. These artists will then write responses to each other’s work throughout the course of the festival (stay tuned on the Cannonball website to read them). thINKingDANCE will also be leading weekly “Write Back Atchas” for audience members following specific Cannonball performances. Post-show, a thINKingDANCE writer will guide audiences through a creative response to the show through writing. Audience writing may be featured on thINKingDANCE.net, where you can find reviews of Cannonball shows, Philadelphia Fringe shows, and more!

Write Back Atchas will be held on:
